In the last month of 1993, Michel Buijsman and Raph de Rooij rode on their moutainbikes from Los Angeles to Moab. Just a few weeks before their departure, they had to cancel another trip they had prepared for almost a year. The reason: crossing the Sahara desert in Africa had become impossible, due to the outbreak of a civil war in Algeria. So it became the western USA instead. It turned out to be a cold experience, but also a vacation never to forget.
